The Tent
Rage Outdoor
are quite new
in the camping arena but have looked and thought of each
section of a tent build with their view to making Rage
the highest
quality, most functional, practical and
easy to use of any tent on the campsite at a more
affordable price. Confidence in the Rage tent range is
gained by providing many standard specifications usually
only found on more expensive tents.
New for 2007 the Rage
Alta 4 DX is, as the name suggests, a 4 berth
tent with a ‘Tunnel’ type design (also available in a 6
berth version, the Alta 6 DX) with a flexible front
section which allows you to reduce or increase your
sheltered living space by unzipping the whole front
panel and moving it back in to the tent before zipping
it back in (similar to the older Gelert Lokon &
Sunncamp Vario’s of the camping world) but does it live
up to the companies promise of confidence for the
price?. Well the specifications are quite impressive

With two windows on the door (with
zipped curtains that can be rolled back) and four
windows at the sides of the living area which, which can
be rolled up (halfway they change to mesh so are useful
completely open in hot weather or they can be left
halfway up to let light but not rain in) then there’s
plenty of options on light and ventilation.

Erection / Pitching
Flysheet Erected
First. As usual with
this type of tent it’s very simple to erect, thread the
poles through the sleeves to form a ‘hoop’ pull up into
position then peg and guy out, but ideally requires 2
people for this task.
Erection Time around 30 mins.

The Verdict
When a manufacturer describes the
berth size of their tent it’s usually overestimated but
I’m pleased to say that with each bedroom large enough
for 2 people accompanied by standing room throughout the
Rage Alta 4 DX truly is a 4 person tent. The movable
wall option allows the door to be positioned either at
the front, to make a large living area, or halfway
between the front and the bedrooms, to create a large
sheltered porch should cater for all tastes (and
weather). The pegs supplied are only the basic steel
type so may need supplementing with some more sturdier
or Delta type pegs. The whole tent seems very well made,
especially in view of the price and with a small pack
size and weight it’s a tent worth having to throw in the
back of the car for those weekends away (or maybe even
longer).
The Cost
Currently £85 against an RRP of £180
– A Bargain!!!!
