The Pod Teardrop Trailer In Black - Review For 365 Camping Caravanning

The Pod Teardrop Trailer Overview

Hello once again, following on from my review of the Turtle 1200 teardrop trailer, still on the teardrop models available we come to "The Pod" a retro 2 berth unit I have now owned for 5 months. The Turtle 1200 was good but sitting in a normal fashion was not easy so you will be glad to hear this one has addressed this problem by having a hole in the floor to put ones feet into. This is created by part of the floor of The Pod popping up to form a table during the day which allows enough room for 4 people to sit at. At night the table is dropped back down into the floor to make the sleeping area for two.

The turtle was 400kg approx this pod being again grp like the 1200 is just 225kg. How ever this unit does not have the same equipment, a SMEV twin burner and sink it does have but no fridge or sockets. It has a battery for 12v in the front locker. Four internal lights give a good light from the halogen bulbs. Twin cupboards and shelves at the front give storage and at the rear under the cooker and sink there is more storage room.

There's only one door on The Pod a rather light weight affair and it does stick sometimes, not nice if you are scared of small spaces. The only gripe is any one over 5ft 8 inches can not sleep fully stretched out as you can in the Turtle 1200. Inside height is similar in both The Pod and The Turtle 1200 models but the pod is more compact. The porthole windows open inwards and are actually good at for stopping heavy rain getting in when open. The pod has good insulation but the trim level on mine was not as good as The Turtle 1200. The Paint finish was rather poor in other areas, some screws were not put in straight,  more cosmetic and not a real fault but I notice these things. To be fair all faults will be sorted but quality issues are all too common these days and should not be when you are paying around £5000.

The sink has water drawn in to it from a tank on mine it leaked from the waste pipe and water pipe a new clamp fixed the problem. The chassis is not in my view galvanised so Waxoyl or anti rust paint it within 2 years I would advise to be a good move. The pod is a wonderful design on 30's 50's theme and I can recommend for couples wanting a simple unit. The pod really could be the best English made unit you ever owned. Add an awning for extra room

To tow the pod is a dream you will not feel it, I keep looking for it in the mirror.  Be warned when you go on site crowds will want to see it.
