Sunncamp Elan 200
(Sleeping Capacity
2 persons)
The Tent
Part of the Sunnflair Sunncamp
‘Platinum’ range of tents for 2010 the new Elan 200
is heralded as “perfect for couples looking for a 2
berth tent with loads of livings space and loads of
light”. Having only seen pictures of the tent I was
a little unsure about purchasing one but it looked,
on paper, just what I was looking for so I took the
plunge and generally wasn’t disappointed. Easy to
pitch (as one), seems solid as a rock (especially
with all the pegging points and guylines), standing
room throughout, large light living area, excellent
quality for the price and lots of features. On first
seeing the Elan 200 erected it speaks quality and
deserves it’s place in Sunnflairs Sunncamp
‘Platinum’ range of tents. But how can Sunnflair
produce such quality at a low price?, well closer
inspection is required. The roof poles are
fibreglass and not steel like the support legs, both
entrance doors have mesh omitted hence you do not
have the option of allowing the required extra
ventilation through the doors on a hot summers day
whilst keeping the annoying flying insects out of
the tent. The living area clear windows are fixed so
no option to unzip these for extra ventilation. The
rear ‘gusseted’ door can be pegged down at each
corner on the outside but is held at the centre base
by just a small Velcro tab which allowed a cold
draught to billow into the tent, I added a long
strip of self adhesive Velcro to the inside of the
door and a couple of ‘Clingons’ (tm) to the outside
to keep the draught out. The Elan 200 does not have an
optional canopy as yet which is a shame, the
Sunncamp universal ‘Verano’ canopy may be an option
but as it’s 210cm in height and the Elan 200 is
200cm then I doubt it’ll be a perfect fit ...... but
with a bit of searching I found a perfect match:-
the Khyam Sun Awning (see pics above), an excellent
addition which complements the Elan 200 nicely.

Pros and Cons |
|
|
Pros |
Cons |
|
Excellent quality
Quick pitch
Spacious living area
Sturdy
Adjustable pegging straps
Panoramic windows
2 entrances |
No mesh option on
entrance doors
Windows do not open
Rear ‘gusseted’ door held with small
Velcro attachment at base
A couple of extra pegging point at the
base of the bedroom area of the tent
would be nice but this can be overcome
by utilising a couple of ‘Clingons’ (tm) |
The Cost
Around £180
Verdict
All in all an excellent tent for the price, I bought
the Elan 200 as a quick pitch weekend tent but I
could easily utilise it (and be happy in it) for
longer.
