Vango Artemis 400
(Sleeping Capacity
4 persons)

The Tent
Life can be strange sometimes, there I
was making a 100 mile round trip to Outdoor World in
Warrington to see the tent I’d seen on their website
erected in their showroom. I was 100% sure I was
going to buy it, BUT , as I’d made previous mistakes
with not seeing before buying, then I thought the
100 mile trip was worth it.
How right I was too, whilst I was looking at the
tent I had travelled all that way to view something
seemed to be telling me to ‘look behind you’ and my
gaze was instantly drawn to a green fair maiden, the
Vango Artemis, Goddess of Forests and Hills and of
the Hunt. I was her prey and she’d succeeded in
captivating me.
Vango state “This strikingly different tunnel
structure is easy and quick to pitch, with the wider
central pole offering greater living space and
headroom. This steel poled tent will withstand
arduous weather conditions, offering you a sound
haven” and I think I have to agree with them.
The tent on show is the Vango Artemis 500 but I
chose the Vango Artemis 400 as I needed a quick
pitch tent with standing room through out for just
myself and wife for weekends and the Artemis 400
size suited our needs better.

Good quality

More length on the
tension straps on the ring & pin system
as I found a couple of them a little
awkward.
Usual struggle to ‘get it back in the
bag’ so would benefit from an oversized
bag for those occasions when you need to
pack quick and throw it in the back of
the car but it did go back in the bag
once I’d left the poles out of the main
bag. |
The Cost
MRRP £200 but Outdoor World of
Warrington have them on offer for £175
Verdict
Vango have excelled with the
Artemis 400, I’m hard to please so if they’ve
pleased me then they’ve definitely got something
right. The design using just 3 steel poles to create
so much space without sacrificing structural
integrity is to be applauded. I have preferred a
stronger pegging point at the centre of the back of
the tent rather that the elastic hoop but adding a
couple ‘Clingons’ (tm) would do the job nicely. The
tent is quick to pitch (15 minutes with 2 people)
but can be done on your own albeit with a bit of a
struggle as the poles are best raised whilst the
opposite sides ring is inserted into it’s leg pole.
The optional extra of the front canopy (which I also
purchased) across all of the Artemis range is
another plus. The canopy is easy to pitch, it just
clips onto the already erected tent pole legs and
then guyed out. Many tents have optional ‘side’
canopies but when you’ve pitched your tent ‘back to
the wind’ those side canopies can take a bit of a
battering when the wind gets up. Front canopies are
somewhat better protected in these situations.
Pictures on the internet really do not do this tent
any justice. This tent wasn’t an option to me until
I saw it ‘in the flesh’ so if you decide to view one
erected then don’t forget your credit cards as a
purchase would be hard to resist.
Available in two colours (smoke / ocean and laurel /
meadow) the Artemis has extra appeal l personally I
like the laurel / meadow.
