Tent Reviews, Read Before You Choose
Looking to buy a new tent, take a look at our
members tent review. Select the size tent you are
interested in by clicking the links below. Remember size
matters both in room in the tent, pack down size and
weight for transporting. Manufacturers often rate there
tents in the number of persons they can sleep, remember
this is the manufacturers view and some allow more room
than others per person, so at best this should be
considered a maximum number to sleep in the tent.

Which Tent Is Right For You?
Your tent is not only your mobile
home but is also your first barrier against the elements
( rain, wind and them damn midges). Choose the right
tent (and equipment) for your needs and you’ll be
comfortable in most environments. Whether you’re
backpacking, touring or setting up family camp for the
summer holidays, there’s a tent out there your you. So
how do you go about deciding which tent is right for
you? Well, only you can make the final decision but
here’s a few 365 Camping Caravanning tips……..
What will be the main activity you
will be using your tent for?
Family Camping (long stays to
short stays)
Touring
Backpacking
Answers to these will initially guide
you to the Size, Berth, Weight, Ease of Pitching and
Storage space (for your equipment) you will need from
your tent.
Then you have look at costs and room
available to transport the unit…..
Is it within your budget?,
Will it fit in the car with all
the other equipment? If not,
will I need to purchase a trailer or roof box?
Tent Designs:- Modern tents tend to
fit into 3 main design styles - Dome, Tunnel and
Geodesic.
Dome
– The dome style is favoured for family and some low
level hiking tents due to the design maximising
headroom and space against its ground footprint.
Many ‘Dome’ designs pitch ‘inner’ first with an
outer (flysheet) covering.
Tunnel
– Tunnel tents usually offer a larger amount of
internal space. They require fewer poles resulting
in a lighter tent (but not always the case) and are
fast and simple to pitch. Most models are pitched
‘As One’ (the inner and outer (flysheet) are pitched
at the same time).
Geodesic
– The geodesic design is a modern twist on the dome
tent using clever pole positioning to increase
rigidity and stability.
Within these three categories the
following features are usually found (but can vary).
Flysheet
– The flysheet is the outer ‘skin’ of the tent that
keeps out the elements. A tent’s flysheet can be
made of a number of materials with a waterproof
layer and may have taped seams, giving full
waterproof protection.
Inner tent
– The inner section of a tent usually contains your
main living area and bedrooms. All inners are
designed to allow air flow so that condensation
build up is kept to a minimum. Also, the majority of
tent inners are made using light coloured fabric to
allow maximum light into the tent.
Hope that helps........
